New Delhi: The owner of a five-storey hotel building in Delhi’s Malviya Nagar has been arrested in connection with a fatal fire incident that claimed multiple lives, officials said. The action comes as police continue their investigation into the circumstances that led to the blaze and possible violations of safety regulations at the property.

According to officials, the fire broke out at a hotel located in the Hauz Rani area of south Delhi, triggering panic among guests and staff trapped inside the building. Fire services were alerted soon after the incident, and multiple fire tenders were rushed to the spot to control the flames and carry out rescue operations. Emergency teams worked to evacuate occupants from the smoke-filled premises while efforts were made to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent structures in the densely populated locality.

Police officials said preliminary findings are being examined to determine whether adequate fire safety measures were in place at the hotel. Investigators are also assessing building approvals, safety clearances, and emergency preparedness protocols as part of the probe. The arrest of the building owner marks a key development in the case as authorities seek to establish accountability for the tragedy.

Several victims were shifted to nearby hospitals following the incident, while identification processes are underway for those who lost their lives. Officials added that statements from survivors, staff members, and eyewitnesses are being recorded to reconstruct the sequence of events leading up to the fire.

The investigation remains ongoing, and further legal action is expected based on findings related to compliance lapses and potential negligence.
