HC stays trial court observations in Delhi excise policy case involving Kejriwal

New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday stayed adverse remarks made by a trial court against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) and its investigating officer in the Delhi excise policy case involving Arvind Kejriwal and Manish Sisodia.

Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma also directed the trial court to postpone hearings in the money-laundering case linked to the matter until the High Court decides the CBI’s revision petition challenging the discharge of 23 accused.

The CBI moved the High Court against the February 27 order of Special Judge Jitendra Singh, which discharged all accused in the alleged irregularities in the 2021-22 Delhi excise policy.

The trial court had ruled that the prosecution’s conspiracy claim was based on conjecture and did not merit trial, prompting the CBI to challenge the order as “patently illegal” and based on a selective reading of evidence.
