New Delhi: Members of the Delhi High Court Bar Association (DHCBA) will wear black ribbons while appearing in courts on Monday, October 12, in solidarity with lawyers allegedly manhandled by police during the October 10 protests.

The association said the symbolic gesture was intended to express solidarity with members of the legal fraternity who were allegedly subjected to physical force during the demonstrations.

The DHCBA also condemned what it described as the excessive and disproportionate use of force by police against lawyers.

The move comes amid continuing tensions surrounding the October 10 protests in Delhi, during which security arrangements and police action drew objections from sections of the legal community.

By wearing black ribbons in court, DHCBA members are seeking to highlight their concerns over the treatment of lawyers and express opposition to the alleged use of excessive force against members of the profession.

The black ribbon protest is a symbolic form of dissent through which the DHCBA seeks to raise concerns about police conduct and the treatment of lawyers during public demonstrations. The association's move highlights the legal community's demand for accountability over the alleged use of excessive force and its emphasis on protecting the rights and dignity of legal professionals.
