Who will be next Delhi CM? Parvesh Verma meets Lieutenant Governor amid intense discussions in BJP

New Delhi: Amid growing speculation of Parvesh Verma emerging as the BJP’s Chief Ministerial candidate, the newly elected MLA, along with other victorious BJP leaders, paid a courtesy visit to Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena shortly after Atishi resigned as the Chief Minister.
Parvesh Verma, who secured a win in the New Delhi seat, was joined by Arvinder Singh Lovely, elected from Gandhi Nagar, and Kailash Gahlot, who triumphed in the Bijwasan constituency. The trio met the Lieutenant Governor at Raj Niwas, his official residence.
Addressing the media after the meeting, Kailash Gahlot clarified, “It was purely a courtesy call to the LG.” Echoing the same sentiment, Arvinder Singh Lovely remarked while leaving, “This was nothing more than a formal visit.”
Parvesh Verma Arvinder Singh defeated AAP’s Arvind Kejriwal by 4,089 votes, Lovely secured a decisive win over AAP's Naveen Chaudhary with a margin of 12,748 votes, while Kailash Gahlot bested AAP's Surender Bhardwaj by 11,276 votes.
The election results delivered a major blow to AAP, which managed to win only 22 seats—a steep decline from the 62 seats it secured in the previous assembly. The BJP, on the other hand, achieved a landslide victory, returning to power in Delhi after 27 years and displacing AAP from the helm.
Meanwhile, a meeting, held at the residence of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, was attended by BJP National President J P Nadda and other prominent leaders.
Reports suggest that Parvesh Verma is the frontrunner for the Chief Minister’s post. Other names rumoured to be under consideration include former Leader of Opposition Vijender Gupta, Brahmin leader Satish Upadhyay, Delhi BJP general secretary Ashish Sood, Jitendra Mahajan and Bansuri Swaraj, daughter of the late Sushma Swaraj.
