14 flights diverted at Delhi Airport amid heavy rain; Air India, IndiGo issue advisories

New Delhi: At least 14 flights were diverted from Delhi Airport on Monday as bad weather disrupted flight operations, with airlines warning passengers of possible delays and asking them to check their flight status before leaving for the airport.

Both Air India and IndiGo issued advisories to passengers as rain and thunderstorms affected several parts of the national capital.

IndiGo said bad weather over Delhi had impacted flight schedules and that it was closely monitoring the situation. The airline advised passengers travelling on Monday to check their flight status through its website or app before heading to the airport.

The airline also asked passengers to allow additional travel time, citing the possibility of slower road conditions due to the weather.

Air India similarly warned that adverse weather conditions could affect flight operations to and from Delhi. The airline urged passengers to check the latest flight status before leaving for the airport.

Heavy rain triggers waterlogging, traffic snarls

The flight disruptions came as rain lashed several parts of Delhi, leading to traffic snarls and waterlogging.

The weather office had issued a red alert for heavy rain and a yellow alert for moderate rain across several districts. Thunderstorms, lightning and winds of 30-40 kmph were also expected in parts of the city.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms were reported at isolated places across South East Delhi, East Delhi, Shahdara, Central Delhi, North East Delhi, South Delhi, New Delhi, South West Delhi, West Delhi, North West Delhi and North Delhi.

Several commuters also took to social media to report traffic congestion and waterlogging in parts of the capital.

Delhi recorded a minimum temperature of 27.8 degrees Celsius at Safdarjung, which was 1.4 degrees above normal. The Ridge recorded the lowest minimum temperature in the city at 24 degrees Celsius.

Passengers travelling through Delhi Airport are advised to check with their respective airlines for the latest flight status before setting out.
