Dehradun horror: Software Engineer robbed, thrown off bridge; condition critical

Dehradun: A 23-year-old software engineer is battling for life after he was allegedly assaulted, robbed and thrown off a bridge by two unidentified men in Dehradun, police said on Saturday.
The victim, identified as Akash Kumar, had reportedly finished his night shift and was waiting for a bike taxi near Sahastradhara crossing around 2.15 am on Thursday when the incident took place.
According to a complaint filed by his father, Vinod Kumar, two men arrived on a scooter and allegedly forced Akash to accompany them to Jamunwala Bridge near Hanuman Temple.
Akash was allegedly beaten up and robbed of two mobile phones and Rs 600 in cash before being thrown off the bridge, the complaint said.
The injured engineer reportedly remained at the spot for several hours before a priest passing through the area the next morning noticed him lying injured and alerted nearby military personnel, who rushed to help him.
Vinod Kumar, a sanitation worker with the Municipal Corporation, said his son suffered severe injuries, including a fractured spine. Doctors performed surgery on Akash on Saturday, and he is currently undergoing treatment at Doon Hospital.
Circle Officer Swapnil Muyal said police teams have been formed to investigate the case.
“We are examining CCTV footage from the crime scene and surrounding routes. A detailed investigation into all aspects of the incident is underway,” Muyal said.
He added that further legal action would be taken based on the findings of the probe.
