Oil marketing companies have raised the price of commercial LPG cylinders with effect from Thursday, January 1, increasing cost pressures for hotels, restaurants and other commercial users at the start of the new year.

The price of a 19 kg commercial LPG cylinder has been increased by ₹111 with immediate effect. Following the revision, the retail price of the cylinder in Delhi now stands at ₹1,691.50.

Prices of 5 kg Free Trade LPG (FTL) cylinders have also been revised upwards. The cost of the 5 kg FTL cylinder has risen by ₹27, effective January 1.

Household consumers, however, have been spared from the hike. The price of the 14.2 kg domestic LPG cylinder remains unchanged, ensuring stability in cooking gas prices for families.

The increase in commercial LPG rates is expected to have a significant impact on sectors such as eateries, catering services and small businesses, where fuel costs form a major part of operating expenses. Industry players say the hike could add to inflationary pressures in the food and services sector.

Domestic LPG prices have remained stable in recent months, partly due to government support. In August, Union Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri had highlighted the Centre’s decision to provide ₹30,000 crore in compensation to oil marketing companies to help keep LPG prices steady despite global uncertainties.

The Union Cabinet, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, approved the compensation package on August 8, to be paid in twelve instalments.

The revised commercial LPG rates will remain in force until further revision by oil marketing companies.
