Once again cockroach in food served on Vande Bharat; FB post shared by passenger goes viral

A Vande Bharat express passenger from Mumbai alleged that he got a cockroach in the food served in the train. This incident comes after a complaint was made that a cockroach was found in the food on the Vande Bharat train last June. 

The photo and video of a cockroach found in the food is going viral on X.

The passenger said in the post that the roach was found in the dal served during the journey from Shirdi in Maharashtra to Mumbai. Between April 2023 and February 2024, the Railways received 123 complaints against unhygienic food served in Vande Bharat trains.

According to the post he shared on X, the cockroach was found in the food served as dinner to the sister of Ricky Jeswani, who was traveling with his family. He has given a written complaint to the IRCTC in this regard.

The photo and video of the unsanitary food and written complaint was shared on X by another person. The incident took place on August 19. Ricky Jaswani wondered if this was the new India in a post shared on X, stating that he found the cockroach in the dal served for dinner during the trip and the manager came and confirmed the same.

After his post went viral, the Railways responded,  “Apologies for the inconvenience caused to you. A penalty is imposed on the person providing the service.” 

The Railway's reply post also said that officials have been appointed to inspect the food cooking unit in the train. 

Apart from this, another person who traveled in the same train commented in the post that the curd in the breakfast food was stale.

It is learned that, IRCTC had 1,518 contracts for catering services till February this year. 

Despite receiving over a thousand complaints, the Railways has canceled only three contracts in the past three years.
