Cockroach Janata Party scam alert: Punjab police warns users against fake WhatsApp links

Ludhiana: As the viral Cockroach Janata Party continues to gain momentum online, scammers are now allegedly using the movement’s popularity to target unsuspecting users through fraudulent links and phishing attempts.
On Saturday, the Punjab Police issued a public advisory urging people to remain cautious of suspicious messages being circulated in the name of the Cockroach Janata Party.
According to police officials, scamsters are sharing WhatsApp links claiming to offer membership to the movement, while actually attempting to hack mobile phones and steal sensitive personal and financial information.
Police warn against fraudulent WhatsApp links
Authorities said several WhatsApp messages are currently circulating in which users are encouraged to join the Cockroach Janata Party by clicking on links sent to their phones.
In an advisory message shared by Ludhiana Police, officials warned that the links were part of a wider cyber fraud attempt.
“This is not a joke, but a big conspiracy to hack your phone and fraudulently withdraw your money. Do not make the mistake of clicking on such fake links. Be alert, be careful!” the message stated.
Officials say scammers are exploiting online trend
A police official in Ludhiana said the growing online popularity of the Cockroach Janata Party had generated considerable public interest, particularly on social media platforms.
However, cybercriminals are now allegedly exploiting the trend by distributing phishing links through WhatsApp and other messaging platforms.
According to the official, users are falsely told that clicking on the link will allow them to formally join the movement.
“It is a phishing link. Clicking it will compromise your phone, giving scammers access to your bank details. They could take out loans in your name and withdraw money from your account,” the officer said in a video message.
Public asked to report suspicious activity
Police have urged members of the public not to click on any suspicious or unverified links related to the Cockroach Janata Party or similar online campaigns.
Officials also advised people to immediately report fraudulent messages or cybercrime attempts to the police.
The warning comes amid growing concerns over the misuse of viral internet trends by scammers seeking access to personal data and banking information.
The Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) was founded by Abhijeet Dipke, a student at Boston University who was previously associated with the Aam Aadmi Party.
The satirical online movement has witnessed explosive growth since its launch roughly a week ago and has already crossed more than 19 million followers on Instagram.
Its rapid rise has made it one of the most talked-about political satire phenomena on Indian social media in recent days.
