‘Never seen a bigger coward and bully’: CJP leader Abhijeet Dipke attacks PM Modi after release on peace bond

New Delhi: Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) convener Abhijeet Dipke on Sunday, October 11, criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi following his release from detention in Delhi. In a post on X, Dipke called the prime minister an “embarrassment to India” and accused him of being a coward and a bully.
“Modi, as PM, is an embarrassment to India. Never has this country seen a bigger coward and bully,” Dipke wrote.
Dipke was detained along with fellow CJP leaders Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das on Saturday, October 10, after their flight from Mumbai landed in Delhi. The three had travelled to the national capital to participate in a planned protest at Jantar Mantar demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged irregularities in the electoral-roll revision exercise.
CJP leaders released after furnishing surety bond
Delhi Police said the three leaders were preventively arrested on October 10 under Sections 126 and 170 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS). They were produced before the Special Executive Magistrate at Delhi Cantonment on Sunday.
According to the police, the leaders were released after a surety bond of Rs 50,000 was furnished. As a condition of their release, they were directed to maintain peace and good behaviour and not engage in activities that could disturb public tranquillity for one year.
Section 126 of the BNSS allows an Executive Magistrate to require a person considered likely to breach the peace to show cause why they should not execute a bond to maintain peace. Section 170 provides for preventive arrest without a warrant in specified circumstances when police believe a cognisable offence cannot otherwise be prevented.
The detention of the three leaders came amid heightened security in Delhi ahead of the CJP demonstration. The group’s supporters criticised the police action, while Delhi Police said the required legal procedures had been followed.
CJP renews protest call over Gyanesh Kumar
Following the leaders’ release, the CJP reiterated that it would continue its campaign seeking Kumar’s resignation over alleged irregularities in the voter-list revision exercise.
CJP leader Ajinkya Shinde said the detention would not force the group to abandon its demand. The party also announced a press conference for 2 pm on Sunday to address the developments.
The CJP had planned to assemble at Jantar Mantar, but police restrictions and extensive security arrangements remained in place. Delhi Police had prepared barricades and traffic diversions across parts of the capital ahead of the proposed demonstration.
What the detention means for the CJP protest
The detention and subsequent release of the three CJP leaders have added to tensions surrounding the group’s campaign against Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The one-year peace condition imposed on their release is significant because it places legal obligations on the leaders regarding their conduct during that period.
The dispute also raises questions about the use of preventive powers during planned demonstrations. Such powers are intended to prevent breaches of peace, but their application in protest situations can draw scrutiny over the balance between public order and the right to peaceful assembly.
The CJP has said it intends to continue its agitation. The group’s renewed protest call, alongside the security restrictions in Delhi, leaves the next steps in its campaign dependent on how the authorities and organisers proceed.
