The Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) will continue its protest at Delhi’s Jantar Mantar at 10 am on Sunday, October 11, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar over alleged electoral roll irregularities.

The Delhi Traffic Police has warned of possible restrictions and diversions across New Delhi and central Delhi from 6 am, depending on the law-and-order situation.

The announcement came after police detained protesters, activists and political leaders during Saturday’s demonstrations. CJP has vowed to sustain its agitation until accountability is established over alleged deletions and manipulation of 13 crore votes.

Delhi Traffic Police issues advisory

Traffic movement in parts of New Delhi and central Delhi could be disrupted on Sunday as authorities prepare for the continuing protest.

Possible restrictions may begin at 6 am, with diversions depending on ground conditions. Areas that could be affected include Jantar Mantar, Sansad Marg, Connaught Place, Mandi House, Rail Bhawan, Patel Chowk, Dhaula Kuan, Lodhi Road and Sardar Patel Marg.

Commuters heading to railway stations, inter-state bus terminals and the airport have been advised to allow extra time for their journeys. The police have also urged people to avoid non-essential travel through the affected areas and follow updates on the Delhi Traffic Police website.

CJP vows to continue agitation

Addressing a press conference on Saturday, CJP national organisation in-charge Ajinkya Shinde said the party would not withdraw its protest despite the detentions. He called on supporters to gather at Jantar Mantar on Sunday and continue demonstrating even if police prevented them from reaching the venue.

The agitation centres on allegations of irregularities in the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls. CJP is demanding Kumar’s resignation and has said its campaign for electoral transparency will continue across multiple states.

Delhi Police had denied permission for Saturday’s gathering, and protesters were detained at several locations, including along routes leading to Jantar Mantar.

Opposition, civil society groups back protests

CJP representatives accused the authorities of using security measures and movement restrictions to prevent peaceful assembly. They also criticised reported restrictions around Jantar Mantar, metro station closures, train service suspensions and preventive detentions at transit points.

Nationalist Congress Party spokesperson Anish Gawande said opposition parties and civil society groups would continue working together to seek accountability from the Chief Election Commissioner. Srijan Bhattacharya of the Students’ Federation of India also voiced support for broader unity among groups protesting the alleged electoral irregularities.

The organisers have pledged to continue demonstrations and civil disobedience until their demands for electoral transparency and accountability are addressed.
