‘This is not my domain’: CJI Surya Kant on Delhi protests against CEC Gyanesh Kumar

New Delhi: Chief Justice of India (CJI) Surya Kant on Monday distanced himself from questions about the recent protests against Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Gyanesh Kumar in Delhi, saying the issue did not fall within his domain.
“Ye mera mudda nahin hai (This matter doesn't pertain to my domain),” the CJI told reporters when asked about the protests and the restrictions imposed in the national capital.
Surya Kant was interacting with reporters on the sidelines of an event at Vigyan Bhawan to mark the 33rd anniversary of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC).
Delhi has witnessed protests against Kumar over the past few days. Over the weekend, the capital saw a heavy deployment of security personnel, the closure of 45 metro stations and intensive checks at its border points.
Thousands of protesters, including Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) leaders and former chief ministers, were detained amid the security measures.
Asked about the protests and restrictions on movement, the CJI said the issue concerned law and order.
