Raipur: The Chhattisgarh security forces have eliminated two Maoists in an encounter in Sukma district. The Maoists killed include a high-profile commander named Baman, the LOSC(Local Organisation Squad Commander), who had a Rs 5 lakh bounty on his head, and a female Maoist whose identity remains unconfirmed. The encounter took place in the Pusgunna forest area under the jurisdiction of Kukanar Police Station.

The operation was part of the ongoing anti-Naxalite operation, launched based on credible intelligence. The search mission, initiated following the intelligence inputs, later turned into a gun battle between the security forces and the Maoists.

The security forces recovered the bodies of the two Maoists along with a cache of weapons, including an INSAS rifle, a 12-bore rifle, ammunition, and explosive materials.

This operation comes after a recent incident where Additional Superintendent of Police, Akash Rao Giripunje, lost his life in an IED explosion in the same region, highlighting the intense security challenges posed by Maoist activities in the area.
