Sunny Leone joins govt scheme? Man creates fake account to pocket Rs 1000 monthly

Chhattisgarh: A case of fraud has come to light in Chhattisgarh involving the state's Mahtari Vandan Yojana, a scheme designed to provide financial support to married women. In a shocking turn of events, it has been revealed that a man opened a bank account in the name of Bollywood actress Sunny Leone and had been withdrawing Rs 1,000 every month, the amount intended for women under the scheme.
The Mahtari Vandan Yojana, launched by the BJP-led state government, is meant to provide Rs 1,000 each month to married women across Chhattisgarh to support their financial needs. However, it was discovered that one of the accounts receiving these monthly deposits was under the name of Sunny Leone, with the fraudulent activities carried out by a man named Virendra Joshi. Officials have identified Joshi as the individual responsible for opening and managing the account. A formal case has been filed against him, and further legal action is underway.
The fraud was reported from Talur village in the Bastar region, prompting the district collector, Haris S, to order an investigation. He has instructed the Women and Child Development Department to conduct a thorough inquiry into the incident and take action to seize the bank account to recover the illicitly obtained funds. The issue came to light after media reports highlighted the shocking misuse of the scheme.
The case has sparked a political debate between the ruling BJP and the Opposition Congress. Congress leader Deepak Baij has raised concerns, alleging that over 50 percent of the beneficiaries in the Mahtari Vandan Yojana are fraudulent.
“More than half of the beneficiaries are fake,” he stated, questioning the integrity of the scheme.
In response, Deputy Chief Minister Arun Sao hit back at the Congress, claiming that their criticisms stemmed from the fact that the BJP government had successfully implemented a financial assistance programme for women, something the Congress had failed to achieve during its term in power.
