Chennai: Special voter registration and revision camps are being conducted today at all 4,079 polling stations in Chennai district as part of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls, the Greater Chennai Corporation has announced.

The exercise follows directions from the Election Commission of India (ECI) to ensure accurate and inclusive voter lists ahead of upcoming elections.

The draft electoral roll for Chennai district was published on December 19, 2025. Citizens were allowed to file claims and objections between December 19, 2025, and January 18, 2026, enabling eligible voters to apply for inclusion, correction, or deletion of names in the electoral roll.

To facilitate easy voter access, special registration camps were earlier organised at all polling stations on December 27 to 28, 2025, and January 3 to 4, 2026, recording significant public participation. The initiative continued on Saturday and has now been extended to Sunday, January 11.

The Greater Chennai Corporation has urged citizens to take advantage of the camps, especially those whose names are missing from the draft roll and individuals who have recently turned 18 and are eligible to vote. Eligible applicants can submit Form 6 along with a declaration form to register their names in the electoral roll.

Voters already listed in an Assembly constituency can file objections using Form 7, to oppose proposed inclusions or request removal of names. For updates to personal details, such as change of address, correction of entries, replacement of Elector Photo Identity Cards (EPIC), or marking voters as persons with disabilities, Form 8 must be submitted.

Election officials stressed that accurate voter data is vital for smooth elections and urged all eligible citizens to verify their details and submit applications before the January 18, 2026, deadline.
