RG Kar case: CBI investigates 4 cops on duty on day of rape-murder

Kolkata: The CBI is examining four Kolkata Police officers who were on duty at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on the morning of August 9, when a junior doctor was found dead after being subjected to rape. Her body was found in a seminar room that day.
Sources say the statements from these officers are vital for the investigation, as they could reveal any evidence tampering that occurred after the body was found. The four officers, including one woman, have already been questioned about what they witnessed near the victim’s body and whether they received any instructions from their superiors.
If necessary, they may be interviewed again. Investigators are also looking at CCTV footage from the hospital, provided by Kolkata Police, to see if there was any tampering with the video.
On Friday, the CBI informed a special court in Kolkata that there was an early attempt to label the doctor’s rape and murder as a suicide. Sources say investigators have identified former Principal Sandip Ghosh and former SHO of Tala Police Station Abhijit Mondal as key figures in the initial tampering of evidence. They are now working to find others who may have assisted in this tampering.
