New Delhi: In a fresh setback for troubled edtech company Byju’s, its primary learning app has been removed from the Google Play Store due to non-payment of dues to Amazon Web Services (AWS), according to sources quoted by PTI.

The app, which offered learning content for classes 4–12 and preparation material for exams like JEE, NEET, and IAS, is no longer available for Android users. However, it remains accessible on Apple’s App Store, and other apps under the Byju’s brand, including Byju’s Premium Learning App and Exam Prep App are still available on the Play Store.

Sources indicate that the non-payment issue is linked to Byju’s ongoing insolvency proceedings, which are being overseen by an Insolvency Resolution Professional (IRP) appointed to handle the company’s financial affairs.

Once valued at $22 billion, Byju’s has been grappling with mounting legal troubles, cash flow issues, and disputes with investors. The National Company Law Appellate Tribunal (NCLAT) recently allowed the initiation of insolvency proceedings against the company following petitions by lenders, including Glas Trust, an authorised representative of creditors.

Adding to the turmoil, Byju’s U.S. subsidiary, Byju’s Alpha, has accused founder Byju Raveendran, co-founder Divya Gokulnath, and former executive Anita Kishore of misdirecting $533 million of borrowed funds. Raveendran has denied the allegations, calling them part of a “targeted campaign” by Glas Trust.

Despite the ongoing crisis, Raveendran has expressed confidence in a turnaround and recently hinted at a potential relaunch of the company as “Byju’s 3.0.”
