The Border Security Force (BSF) foiled a major infiltration bid around 11:00 PM on 8 May 2025 along the International Boundary in Samba district, Jammu & Kashmir, amid escalating Indo-Pak tensions. In a separate incident, BSF troopers shot dead a Pakistani intruder in Punjab’s Ferozepur sector on Wednesday night. Heightened security measures have been implemented across border states including Rajasthan, Punjab, and J&K. The BSF has suspended all training programmes and recalled personnel from leave. In Tripura, Agartala airport authorities requested increased BSF surveillance due to its proximity to the Bangladesh border. Additionally, all evening ceremonial retreat ceremonies at the Attari, Hussainiwala, and Sadki joint check posts have been suspended until further notice as a precautionary measure.

Amit Shah speaks to chiefs of border guarding forces

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Thursday night spoke to chiefs of the country's border guarding forces, including the BSF that guards India's border with Pakistan, sources said.

During the conversation, the home minister took stock of the situation along the international borders as there has been heightened tension between India and Pakistan following India's strike on multiple locations in Pakistan and PoK on Wednesday and Pakistan's attempts to strike Indian military sites on Thursday.

Indian armed forces foiled the Pakistani attempts.

The directors general of the border guarding forces briefed the home minister about the prevailing situation and the steps taken to beef up security, the sources said.

While the BSF guards the India-Pakistan and India-Bangladesh borders, the ITBP guards India's border with China and the SSB guards the border with Nepal and Bhutan.

Shah also spoke to the chief of the CISF and took stock of the security at airports in the country, the sources said.

The CISF guards most of the airports in the country, metro networks and other vital installations.

Family of detained BSF constable gripped by anxiety

Amid escalating border tension between India and Pakistan, the family of BSF constable P K Sahu, who was detained by Pakistan Rangers after inadvertently crossing the international border, remains anxious about his safety.

Sahu's wife Rajani expressed concern that the heightened tension between the two countries may impact efforts to secure her husband's release.

Forty-year-old Sahu, posted in Punjab's Ferozepur sector, inadvertently crossed the international border on April 23 and was subsequently taken into custody by Pakistan Rangers.

The armed forces remain on high alert to thwart any sort of misadventures from the Pakistan side. (PTI)
