Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh acquitted in women wrestlers' sexual harassment case

New Delhi: A Delhi court on Monday acquitted former Wrestling Federation of India (WFI) chief Brij Bhushan Sharan Singh and co-accused Vinod Tomar in the sexual harassment case filed by women wrestlers.

Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Ashwini Panwar cleared Singh, a former BJP MP, and Tomar, who served as WFI assistant secretary, of the charges in the case.

The court had reserved its order on July 2 after the conclusion of final arguments in the case, which was filed by six women wrestlers. The verdict was pronounced on August 3.

In May 2024, the court had ordered charges to be framed against Singh for alleged criminal intimidation. However, he was discharged in a complaint filed by one of the six wrestlers.

Delhi Police had filed a chargesheet against Singh, a six-time MP, on June 15 under sections 354 (assault or criminal force against a woman with intent to outrage her modesty), 354A (sexual harassment), 354D (stalking) and 506 (criminal intimidation) of the Indian Penal Code.
