All Gujarat ministers resign ahead of cabinet expansion; new ministers to take oath Friday

Gandhinagar: All ministers in the Gujarat government, except Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel, have tendered their resignations ahead of a major cabinet reshuffle. A senior BJP source confirmed the move on Thursday evening, calling it part of the party’s ongoing efforts to revamp the state leadership.

The new council of ministers is set to be sworn in on Friday, October 17 at 11:30 am, according to an official release from the state government.

“It has also been officially communicated that on the 17th, CM Bhupendra Patel and his council of ministers are going to be sworn in,” said state minister Rushikesh Patel, confirming the reshuffle.

Cabinet shake-up expected

According to senior BJP leaders, the new cabinet could include around 10 fresh faces. The move is seen as an attempt to inject new energy into the administration ahead of key political and governance milestones.

The outgoing cabinet consisted of 17 members, including:

8 Cabinet-rank ministers

8 Ministers of State (MoS)

Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel himself

Gujarat, which has a 182-member legislative assembly, can constitutionally accommodate up to 27 ministers (i.e., 15% of the total House strength). The reshuffle could see the ruling BJP fill more of that quota as it reshapes its governance strategy.
