Bomb threats rock Delhi: 5 schools evacuated, panic grips parents and students

New Delhi: A wave of bomb threat emails jolted multiple schools across India’s capital on Thursday morning, pushing administrations to activate emergency protocols and evacuate campuses while security agencies carried out thorough searches.

At least five schools in Delhi — including Loreto Convent in Delhi Cantonment, Don Bosco in Chittaranjan Park, and Carmel Convent campuses in Anand Niketan and Dwarka — received threatening messages saying explosives might be present on their premises. The incidents triggered rapid responses from police, bomb disposal squads, canine units, and fire authorities.

Separately, reports indicate that other well-known institutions, such as Amity International School and Birla Vidya Niketan, have also been among those receiving similar threatening communications, prompting heightened vigilance across educational establishments.

Local authorities confirmed that no explosive devices or suspicious objects have so far been discovered during the ongoing inspections. Searches are continuing, and investigators are working to trace the origin of the emails.

Parents were alerted as schools enacted evacuation procedures and moved students to safety while bomb squads combed buildings and grounds. Administrations have stressed that student safety remains the top priority and classes will resume once campuses are fully cleared.

Wider Pattern of Hoax Threats Across Region

This latest scare comes amid a broader trend of bomb threat hoaxes targeting schools and public institutions across the Delhi-NCR and northern India. In recent days:

Gurgaon and Gurugram schools reported bomb threat emails, leading to evacuations at more than a dozen private institutions before nothing suspicious was found.

In Chandigarh, around 30 schools received identical bomb threat messages, causing widespread panic, mass evacuations, and the cancellation of exams — though police later declared those threats hoaxes as well.

Similar bomb threat emails have repeatedly disrupted school operations in the region over recent months, often proving to be hoaxes but causing significant alarm and mobilising heavy security responses.

Authorities have urged the public to remain calm while investigations continue to identify those responsible for the threatening emails. Police are coordinating with cybercrime units to trace email origins and strengthen preventive measures.
