BJP leader Dilip Ghosh’s stepson found dead in Kolkata flat; stress, illness cited

Kolkata: The body of Srinjay Majumdar, the son of BJP leader Rinku Majumdar from her previous marriage, was discovered in a flat in the New Town area near Kolkata on Tuesday, police confirmed.
Declared 'brought dead'
Srinjay Majumdar, 26, was taken to a nearby private hospital where doctors declared him "brought dead", an officer said. He was then taken to the Bidhannagar sub-divisional hospital.
Rinku Majumdar, who recently married BJP leader and former state party president Dilip Ghosh, is a leader of the BJP women’s wing.
No foul play found
A post-mortem examination was conducted at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. According to a senior doctor, the preliminary report ruled out any foul play and indicated that the death was due to acute haemorrhagic pancreatitis, a severe form of pancreatitis.
Police investigation underway
A case has been registered at Techno City Police Station. A preliminary police investigation revealed that two of Srinjay’s colleagues had visited him at his flat on Monday night. One of them was his girlfriend, to whom he was reportedly engaged.
“At night, the deceased also spoke to his mother and a relative with whom he was scheduled to travel to Durgapur this morning,” the officer said.
Rinku Majumdar, who had been staying at Ghosh’s residence in Kolkata, rushed to her son’s flat after receiving calls from his girlfriend. With the help of a neighbour, they took Srinjay to the private hospital where he was declared dead.
Health and emotional struggles
Majumdar told reporters that her son had been suffering from a neurological condition and had been on medication for the past year and a half.
She added, “I came to know that he was neither eating properly nor taking medicines. He never told me, but being a mother, I could feel that he was depressed.”
She said Srinjay may have been under stress following her recent marriage and her move to Ghosh’s residence.
“He never told me that he was upset after the marriage. His friends asked me to take him with me... I was about to do that,” she said, recalling that her son had recently celebrated Mother's Day and presented her with gifts.
Ghosh mourns personal loss
Dilip Ghosh expressed deep sorrow over the loss of Srinjay, describing the relationship he had built with the young man.
“It’s my bad luck. I am so very unfortunate. I never had the happiness of having a son, but I am mourning the demise. Srinjay was close to me. We went to watch matches. We were fond of each other,” Ghosh said.
Biological father responds
Srinjay’s biological father, who resides in Halisahar in North 24 Parganas district, also went to RG Kar Hospital.
“He spoke to me a week back and told me that he would be coming home... I do not know what to say,” he said, holding back tears.
