Who was Dularchand Yadav? Bihar political heavyweight murdered, grandson recalls brutal attack | VIDEO

Just six days ahead of the first phase of the Bihar Assembly elections, the state’s political landscape has been shaken by the brutal murder of Dularchand Yadav, a key supporter of Jan Suraj Party candidate Priyadarshi Piyush.
Who was Dularchand Yadav?
Dularchand Yadav was a prominent figure in Mokama’s political and social landscape, known both for his influence and his controversial past. Once considered one of the most powerful personalities in the Tal region during the 1980s and 1990s, he had close ties with several political leaders, including former Bihar Chief Minister Lalu Prasad Yadav, and had contested elections from Mokama.
Despite his criminal record, which included multiple cases and a 2019 arrest by Patna police, he remained a major force in local politics. In recent years, he had shifted his support from gangster-politician Anand Singh to Priyadarshi Piyush, openly criticising Singh on social media, which reportedly heightened tensions between the two.
Circumstances of the murder
Dularchand Yadav, campaigning actively for Priyadarshi Piyush, was attacked in Tartar village. Reports suggest he was initially beaten with sticks and then shot. The political feud intensified as both sides exchanged accusations: while Priyadarshi Piyush accused Anand Singh’s supporters of orchestrating the murder, Singh claimed it was a retaliatory act by Dularchand’s own followers against his convoy.
The incident created a tense atmosphere in the village, with local residents refusing to allow the body to be removed for over five hours.
Grandson’s eyewitness account
Neeraj Yadav, Dularchand’s grandson, gave a harrowing account of the attack. “We were with him, his car was ahead, and mine was right behind. We were just behind him when the incident happened. I didn’t see it directly, but when the first bullet hit my grandfather, he told me, ‘Neeraj, run!’ Even in his final moments, he wanted me to escape,” he said.
"While I was running, I saw Karam Veer and Raj Veer holding my grandfather and taking him toward Anand Singh, and Anand Singh fired the shots,” he added.
After the initial shots, Neeraj reportedly saw two others continue firing at his grandfather. “When they realised he hadn’t died yet, they deliberately rammed their car over him,” he recounted.
He also explained that the convoy had been moving back and forth, and at the time of the attack, his grandfather’s car was at the end of the line, with Priyadarshi Piyush’s car ahead. “This attack was targeted and planned specifically against him,” Neeraj said.
The murder has sparked outrage among opposition leaders. Purnea MP Pappu Yadav condemned the act, stating, “This is not just one incident. People from various communities, including Dhanuk and Bhumihar, are being targeted. This kind of terror rules the state, from Bhagalpur to Patna. Officials are aligned with specific groups, enforcing their decisions through a mix of gangsterism and biased policing.”
