Kempegowda International Airport (BLR) has reported a net profit of INR 510 crore for the fiscal year 2024–25, marking its first profitable year since commencing operations in 2008. This financial turnaround is attributed to a 43% increase in revenue, reaching INR 3,732 crore, driven by expanded operations at the new Terminal 2 and a surge in passenger traffic.

The announcement followed a board meeting of Bangalore International Airport Limited (BIAL), chaired by Shalini Rajneesh, Chief Secretary to the Government of Karnataka and BIAL Chairperson. BIAL highlighted this achievement as a testament to the airport's strategic growth, sustainability initiatives, and operational excellence.

Sustainability achievements

In addition to its financial success, BLR Airport has garnered several global recognitions in 2025. Notably, it became the first airport in Asia to achieve Level 5 Accreditation under the Airports Council International's Airport Carbon Accreditation programme, effective May 5, 2024. This certification acknowledges a 95.6% reduction in Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, enabling the airport to attain net-zero emissions in these categories seven years ahead of its 2030 target.

Further demonstrating its commitment to environmental stewardship, BLR Airport received the Silver Award in ACI’s Green Airports Recognition 2025 under the theme “Sustainable Energy at Airports” for the 15–38 million passenger category. This marks the fourth consecutive year the airport has been recognized for its sustainability leadership.

Additionally, the airport was honored with the Gold Award at the inaugural ACI Asia-Pacific and Middle East Safety Recognition Award 2025. The award recognized BIAL's proactive and innovative safety strategies that resulted in measurable improvements, setting a benchmark for safety-led airport culture in the region.

With its financial turnaround and commitment to sustainability and safety, Kempegowda International Airport is poised to strengthen its position as a leading aviation hub in the region. The airport's strategic initiatives and operational excellence continue to contribute to its growth and global recognition.
