Bengaluru: Karnataka is set to witness light to moderate rainfall in several regions over the next two days, the Meteorological Department has said. The rain is expected across the southern and northern interior areas, as well as parts of the coastal belt, with thunderstorms likely in some districts.

While interior regions are receiving rainfall, certain coastal districts remain largely dry. For instance, Dakshina Kannada has not reported any showers so far. The southern interior districts have experienced a slight drop in temperatures, making the weather more pleasant for residents.

Meteorologists have added that similar rain or moderate showers may continue in parts of the interior over the coming five days.

Districts likely to receive rain

The rain is expected in districts including Bengaluru Urban, Bengaluru Rural, Shivamogga, Chikkamagaluru, Hassan, Kodagu, Mysuru, Mandya, Chamarajanagar, Chikkaballapur, Kolar, Tumakuru, and Ramanagara.

Winds may reach 30 to 40 km/h during rainfall, prompting authorities to advise residents to exercise caution.

In the northern interior, districts such as Belagavi, Bagalkot, Vijayapura, and Kalaburagi may also experience moderate rain, thunderstorms, and strong winds.

Coastal regions including Uttara Kannada and Udupi may witness some rainfall, while Dakshina Kannada is expected to remain dry.

Cause of the rainfall

The showers are being driven by a weather system stretching from South Tamil Nadu through Marathwada and interior Karnataka. This system, combined with easterly winds and air pressure variations, is creating favourable conditions for rain and cloudy skies.

Although previous cyclonic systems have weakened, current atmospheric conditions continue to support the development of thunderstorms in many parts of the state.
