Ranchi: Police reported that at least three CRPF jawans were injured in an IED explosion in West Singhbhum district, Jharkhand, on Wednesday.

The injured jawans were airlifted to Ranchi for treatment, according to officials.

The incident occurred in Baliwa, located within the Saranda forests under the Manoharpur police station jurisdiction, when personnel from the CRPF 197 battalion were conducting a search operation, said Kolhan DIG Manoj Ratan Chothe.

"An IED exploded during the search operation, injuring three jawans. They were airlifted to Ranchi for treatment," Chothe confirmed.

Jharkhand DGP Anurag Gupta visited the injured jawans at a private hospital in the state capital.

Speaking to reporters, Gupta also confirmed that three jawans had been injured in the blast. "A CRPF radio operator sustained injuries to one of his legs. Doctors have advised surgery to stabilise him. If necessary, we may transfer him to Delhi by air ambulance. We stand by our jawans," he said.

Gupta also commented on the ongoing efforts against Maoists in the state, stating, "Over the past few years, Maoists have been weakened in Jharkhand. Operations against them are ongoing. Many Maoists have been killed, and those remaining will soon be caught or eliminated."
