Dispur Election Result 2026: BJP retains key seat as counting concludes in Assam capital

Vote counting for the Dispur Assembly constituency in Assam concluded on Monday as part of the statewide counting process for all 126 seats. The seat, which covers the state capital and falls under Kamrup district, remains one of the most politically significant constituencies in the state.
According to the final results, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Pradyut Bordoloi secured victory in Dispur, defeating Congress candidate Mira Borthakur Goswami by a margin of 49,667 votes. Early trends throughout the counting day had already indicated a lead for the BJP nominee, which was eventually confirmed as counting progressed.
Dispur, being the administrative heart of Assam, remains a politically significant seat, and the counting process is being closely watched as results continue to emerge from each round.
Key candidates in fray
The 2026 election in Dispur features candidates from major parties as well as independents. The Congress has fielded Mira Borthakur Goswami, while the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has nominated Pradyut Bordoloi. Ballav Patra is contesting from the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP). Independent candidates Jayanta Kumar Das and Ayush Kumar Singh are also in the race, making it a multi-cornered contest.
Past election results
In the 2021 Assembly election, BJP’s Atul Bora won the seat with 1,96,043 votes. Congress candidate Manjit Mahanta finished second with 74,386 votes, with a winning margin of 1,21,657 votes. In 2016, Atul Bora had also secured victory by defeating Congress candidate Akon Bora. The constituency had 3,57,638 registered voters in that election.
State-level voting and trends
Assam voted in a single phase on April 9 for the 2026 Assembly elections. The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance (NDA) is seeking a third consecutive term and continues to maintain a strong presence in the state.
Exit poll predictions
Exit polls have indicated an advantage for the NDA in Assam. Axis My India has projected 88 to 100 seats for the alliance, while the Congress-led opposition is expected to secure between 24 and 36 seats. Another survey by JVC has estimated 88 to 101 seats for the NDA and 23 to 33 for Congress, with other parties likely to win a limited number of seats.
These projections remain indicative as final results depend on the counting process.
