Akhilesh Yadav’s Facebook page taken down, party claims platform silencing democratic voice

A political row erupted on Friday after Samajwadi Party (SP) chief Akhilesh Yadav’s official Facebook page suddenly became inaccessible, prompting sharp criticism from party leaders who accused the social media platform of suspending the account without prior notice.
SP leaders claimed that Facebook had overstepped its limits by taking down the page of the former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister without explanation. Sharing their outrage on social media, prominent party figures demanded immediate restoration of the account and accused the platform of attempting to silence political voices.
“Facebook has dared to cross its limits — it has suspended the official page of Akhilesh Yadav ji without any warning or notice. This is not an ordinary account — this is Akhilesh Yadav ji, the voice of millions! Facebook must remember its boundaries — it cannot silence democracy. Samajwadis, it’s time to bring Facebook to its senses! Such arrogance will not be tolerated,” SP leader Pooja Shukla wrote on X.
Echoing her statement, party leader Pawan Pandey also slammed the company, writing, “Facebook has today dared to cross all limits — without any warning or notice, it has suspended the official page of Akhilesh Yadav ji. This is no ordinary account — it has made a vile attempt to suppress the voice of Indian democracy and the voice of millions of people, that of Akhilesh Yadav ji! Facebook should remember its boundaries — it cannot silence democracy. Socialists, the time has come to bring Facebook to its senses! Such arrogance will not be tolerated.”
As of Friday evening, Facebook had not issued an official statement clarifying whether the page was suspended, removed, or undergoing technical maintenance. The Samajwadi Party maintained that the incident reflects bias against opposition voices on social media platforms, calling for accountability from the tech giant.
