Air India, IndiGo reroute flights as Pakistan shuts airspace to Indian carriers

New Delhi: Air India on Thursday announced that several of its international flights to and from North America, the UK, Europe, and the Middle East may experience delays or take extended routes due to Pakistan's decision to restrict its airspace for Indian carriers.

In a statement, the airline said the closure was beyond its control and expressed regret for the inconvenience caused to passengers. "Due to the announced restriction of Pakistan airspace for all Indian airlines, it is expected that some Air India flights to or from North America, UK, Europe, and the Middle East will take an alternative extended route," the airline said.

Air India emphasised that the safety of its customers and crew remains its top priority. Passengers have been advised to check the status of their flights by contacting the airline’s customer care numbers at 011 69329333 or 011 69329999, or by visiting the official website www.airindia.com.

Meanwhile, IndiGo also issued a travel advisory, warning that some of its international flight schedules may be affected.

“In view of the ongoing situation and Pakistan airspace closure, a few international flight schedules may be impacted. We’re working to minimise the inconvenience,” the airline said in a statement. "Check your flight status http://bit.ly/31paVKQ and rebooking options http://bit.ly/31lwD2y," company wrote in X. 

The airspace closure comes amid heightened tensions between India and Pakistan following the recent Pahalgam terror attack and New Delhi’s subsequent diplomatic actions. In retaliation, Pakistan announced closing of its airspace, suspension of 'all trade' with India, including that routes through third countries.
