Air India Express IX 415 shuts engine mid-flight after oil pressure loss; diverted back to Kochi

Kochi: An Air India Express Boeing 737 operating flight IX 415 from kochi to Abu Dhabi was forced to turn back mid-flight after crew members detected a rapid drop in oil quantity on Engine 1, subsequently shutting the engine down when oil pressure dropped to critical levels.

The aircraft returned and landed safely at Cochin International Airport.

Approximately 50 minutes after departure, whilst cruising at an altitude of 36,000 feet, the flight crew observed the Engine 1 oil level declining quickly.

Following standard operational procedures, the crew conducted a FORDEC risk assessment. As the oil level continued to fall, the pilots elected to abort the journey to Abu Dhabi and head back to Kochi.
