Air India Bhopal-Delhi flight makes emergency landing in Jaipur after technical snag

An Air India flight travelling from Bhopal to New Delhi was diverted to Jaipur on Sunday after the aircraft developed a technical problem mid-flight, prompting an emergency landing. The aircraft landed safely at Jaipur airport, with all passengers and crew members reported to be safe.

The flight, AI1886, was operating on the Bhopal-New Delhi route on September 13 when the technical issue was detected. According to reports, the problem was believed to be related to one of the aircraft’s engines.

The cockpit crew subsequently decided to divert the aircraft to Jaipur rather than continue towards the national capital.

The New Indian Express reported that the aircraft was carrying around 140 people and that an emergency was declared at Jaipur airport for about half an hour as a precautionary measure.

The aircraft subsequently landed safely. The flight was grounded at Jaipur following the incident.

Air India, meanwhile, confirmed that the flight had been diverted because of a technical issue and said the decision was taken in accordance with established procedures.

“Flight AI1886 operating from Bhopal to Delhi on 13 September was diverted to Jaipur due to a technical issue as per laid-down procedures,” the airline said in a statement. The aircraft landed safely and was being subjected to checks in line with Air India’s safety standards.

The airline did not initially provide detailed information about the precise nature of the technical problem. However, multiple reports indicated that the issue may have involved the aircraft’s left engine.

Reports said the emergency landing was carried out as a precaution after the problem was detected during the flight.

The incident comes amid heightened attention on technical issues involving domestic flights in recent days.

The latest episode, however, ended without any reported injuries or casualties.

After landing in Jaipur, the aircraft was taken for inspection. The mandatory safety checks are expected to determine the exact nature and cause of the technical snag before the aircraft is cleared for further operations.

For the passengers travelling to Delhi, the diversion meant an unexpected halt in Jaipur instead of the scheduled arrival at Indira Gandhi International Airport.
