‘Humbled and grateful’: Shashi Tharoor expresses gratitude to leadership over his inclusion to CWC

Thiruvananthapuram: Shashi Tharoor, Member of Parliament, expressed his gratitude to the leadership for his inclusion on the Congress Working Committee. He conveyed his eagerness to collaborate with his fellow colleagues in serving the party. Tharoor conveyed his response through a post on 'X'.

“As one who is aware of the historic role played by the CWC in guiding the party over the last 138 years, I am humbled and grateful to be part of this institution, and look forward to the opportunity to serve the party alongside my dedicated colleagues. None of us can accomplish anything without the lakhs of committed workers who are the lifeblood of the party. Today, above all, I bow to them. The countless Indians who seek a more inclusive and accepting India deserve the best from us,” he wrote.

There are indications that Tharoor's induction into the working committee has been supported by key leaders within the party, including Sonia Gandhi, Manmohan Singh, Rahul Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi. Notably, in the previous year's internal elections for the post of Congress president, Tharoor contested against Kharge but was not successful.

The announcement of the 39-member Congress working committee was made on Sunday afternoon. Additionally, the party disclosed a list of 32 permanent invitees and 13 special invitees. Alongside Shashi Tharoor from Kerala, KC Venugopal and AK Antony have also been included in the working committee. Ramesh Chennithala has been inducted as a permanent invitee, and Suresh Kodikunnil is listed as a special invitee.
