Collector's Super 100: Two Kerala tribal girls secure MBBS and BDS medical admissions

Thiruvananthapuram: Two girls from a tribal settlement in Thiruvananthapuram district are set to realise their dreams of entering the medical profession. Hailing from the Cheruppani settlement in Tollicode Grama Panchayat, Mithila and Bhadra Santhosh have secured admissions to MBBS and BDS courses respectively.

In the Scheduled Tribes (ST) state rank list for Kerala, Mithila secured the 51st rank, while Bhadra achieved the 102nd rank. Achieving success on her very first attempt, Mithila has gained provisional admission for MBBS at the SUT Academy of Medical Sciences in Vattappara. Bhadra has secured admission for BDS at the Indira Gandhi Dental College in Kothamangalam. Both students remain hopeful of upgrading to government medical colleges in subsequent allotment rounds.

Mithila completed her higher secondary education at the Kuttela Model Residential School in Sreekaryam. She is the daughter of Mohankumar, a rubber tapper at Midhunabhavan, and Deepa V Chandran. Her sister, Midhuna, works as a laboratory technician at a private veterinary hospital in Ernakulam.

Bhadra completed her schooling at the Government Higher Secondary School in Vithura. She is the daughter of Santhosh, a village assistant at Indragiri Valiyakalathil, and R P Rathi, a primary school teacher. Her younger brother, Karthik, is a Class 10 student.

Both Mithila and Bhadra received specialised academic coaching under the “Collector's Super 100” initiative. Implemented by the Thiruvananthapuram District Administration under the Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme, the programme is run in collaboration with the non-governmental organisation ‘Kanal’.
