Meerut: A gruesome murder in Meerut has sent shockwaves through the city, with new details revealing how a young woman and her lover murdered a Merchant Navy officer.

The murder, which took place earlier this month, was carefully orchestrated and involved the brutal killing of Saurabh Rajput, whose body was chopped into pieces and buried in a drum filled with cement.

On March 6, Saurabh's sister, Chinki, received WhatsApp messages from his phone, asking if she would be in Meerut for Holi, reported NDTV. The messages continued, with one stating that Saurabh was away and would return after the festival. Little did Chinki know, the messages were not sent by her brother but by his wife, Muskaan Rastogi, who had already murdered him days earlier. Muskaan’s elaborate plot to deceive her husband's family was successful, at least temporarily, until suspicion from the Rajput family prompted a police investigation.

The truth came to light when Muskaan's own family informed the police about the gruesome crime. It was then that the Rajput family realised the unsettling truth: Saurabh had been dead for days, and it was Muskaan who had been sending the messages. The family had become suspicious when Saurabh was sending messages but was not answering calls. After the Rajput family filed a police complaint, the investigation uncovered a chilling tale of murder, deceit, and an extramarital affair.

According to city SP Ayush Vikram Singh, Saurabh, who had been working in London, returned home on March 4, but he was never seen again after that. It was then that Muskaan and her alleged lover, Sahil Shukla (also known as Mohit), had plotted and executed the brutal murder. The two attacked Saurabh, stabbing him to death before dismembering his body into 15 pieces. These pieces were then buried in a plastic drum filled with cement, effectively hiding the crime.

The couple, who had married in 2016 out of love, had been facing marital issues for a long time. They had even discussed divorce, but their plans were stalled, largely due to their daughter. However, the affair between Muskaan and Sahil pushed the situation over the edge, resulting in the tragic murder.

In an ironic twist, it was Muskaan’s own family who turned her in to the police. They were horrified when they learned of the horrific crime and even called for the death penalty for their daughter.

The police investigation is still ongoing, and authorities are piecing together the disturbing details of the crime, which has shaken Meerut to its core.
