‘What did you do after husband was attacked?: SC grills Sonam Raghuvanshi in honeymoon murder case

New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Tuesday questioned the conduct of Sonam Raghuvanshi, the prime accused in the 2025 Meghalaya honeymoon murder case, while hearing her plea and indicated that she should surrender and face trial.

During the hearing, the bench asked Sonam to explain her actions after her husband, Raja Raghuvanshi, was allegedly attacked during the couple's honeymoon in Meghalaya.

‘How do you explain your conduct? Their case is that you along with the deceased went to that place. The occurrence took place where he was attacked and died. What did you do thereafter? That's the primary issue,’ the bench observed.

It also questioned whether she had challenged the grounds of her arrest at the earliest opportunity.

Sonam, a resident of Indore, was arrested in June 2025 after Meghalaya Police accused her of conspiring with hired assailants to murder her husband for financial gain.

Raja Raghuvanshi and Sonam had travelled to Meghalaya for their honeymoon and went missing in the Sohra area on May 23, 2025.

Raja's body was recovered from a deep gorge on June 2, triggering an investigation that led to Sonam's arrest and the arrest of several alleged contract killers.

The apex court said it would either decide the matter on merits or direct Sonam to surrender before the trial court and proceed in accordance with law.
