Two suspects in Haryanvi singer Ankit Balyan’s murder gunned down in UP police encounter | VIDEO

Shamli (UP): Two individuals suspected of involvement in the murder of Haryanvi singer and actor Ankit Balyan were killed during a joint operation by the local police and the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (UP STF) in Shamli.

Balyan, 32, was shot dead on Wednesday evening shortly after exiting a gym in Shamli district. Following the fatal attack, an online post purportedly linked to the Gogi gang surfaced on social media, taking credit for the killing.

Authorities stated that around 6.55 pm on the day of the incident, four unidentified assailants arrived in two vehicles and opened fire on Balyan outside the fitness center. He suffered multiple bullet wounds and was immediately taken to a nearby Community Health Centre (CHC), where medical staff were unable to revive him.
 

Suspects killed and weapons recovered

Law enforcement identified four shooters associated with the crime. Two of the accused, identified as Sumit and Mohit, were killed during retaliatory firing by security forces, and sophisticated arms were seized from their possession.

“An evaluation of security camera footage and local inquiries confirmed that four attackers were involved and fled the scene on two motorcycles. Tactical teams maintained continuous pursuit,” stated Amitabh Yash, Additional Director General of Police (Law and Order), Uttar Pradesh. He added that efforts are ongoing to locate the remaining shooters and uncover any involvement by senior gang figures.

Details of the Operation

Outlining the events leading to the confrontation, Shamli Superintendent of Police Narendra Pratap Singh stated that security blockades were established between midnight and 6 am to screen all incoming traffic.

At approximately 4 am, officers spotted two individuals on a motorcycle. When instructed to stop, the men opened fire, with one bullet striking a police patrol vehicle.

"The SHO of Kotwali was managing a checkpoint near a bridge when the suspects approached. As he attempted to intercept them, they opened fire, shattering the vehicle's front windshield, and sped off toward the city," SP Singh was quoted as saying by the Hindustan Times.

Following an immediate radio broadcast, multiple units, including the SWAT team, surveillance officers, station house officers, and senior district officers, converged on the location. The suspects altered their path, swerving right to evade the surrounding forces.

With law enforcement closing in from multiple routes, the suspects turned into a dead-end street, took cover, and engaged in a firefight. Two police constables were critically wounded during the exchange; both were initially transported to CHC Shamli before being transferred to a specialised medical facility.

The two suspects sustained critical injuries in the crossfire and were taken to the CHC, where they succumbed to their injuries during treatment.
