Twisha Sharma case: Absconding husband Samarth Singh reaches court to surrender

The investigation into the suspicious death of Twisha Sharma took a major turn on Friday after her husband, Samarth Singh, appeared before a court in Madhya Pradesh’s Jabalpur to surrender.
Singh had been missing since the woman’s death earlier this month and was reportedly evading police action for nearly 10 days.
According to PTI, Singh arrived at the district court on Friday evening along with his lawyer, Mrigendra Singh. His surrender comes amid mounting scrutiny in the alleged dowry death case that has drawn significant public attention.
Earlier in the day, Samarth Singh withdrew his anticipatory bail plea from the Madhya Pradesh High Court. His counsel, Jaydeep Kaurav, informed reporters that the application was withdrawn from the single bench of Justice Avanindra Kumar Singh.
Legal experts believe the withdrawal left Singh with limited options, ultimately leading to his decision to surrender before the court.
The anticipatory bail petition had been filed after a lower court rejected his plea last week. Singh had also approached the Delhi High Court seeking permission to surrender before the trial court handling the matter.
Sharma, who married Singh in December last year, was found dead under suspicious circumstances at her matrimonial home in Bhopal on May 12.
Following her death, her family accused her husband and in-laws of subjecting her to dowry harassment and mental torture. They have also alleged abetment to suicide.
Meanwhile, the Singh family has denied the allegations and claimed that Sharma was allegedly struggling with drug addiction.
Police subsequently registered an FIR against Samarth Singh and his mother, Giribala Singh, under multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including provisions related to cruelty and dowry death, along with sections of the Dowry Prohibition Act.
Giribala Singh, a retired district and sessions judge who currently serves as chairperson of the Bhopal Consumer Court, had earlier secured anticipatory bail from a Bhopal court.
The case has sparked widespread debate online, with many demanding a thorough investigation into the circumstances surrounding Sharma’s death.
