Thrissur: The chilling case came to light when a man walked into a Thrissur police station carrying a bag of bones — claiming they belonged to his own children. In a case that has stunned Kerala, police arrested a 25-year-old man named Bavish and his 23-year-old partner Aneesha, a lab technician, for allegedly killing their two newborn babies between 2021 and 2024.

The case came to light after Bavish, reportedly intoxicated, arrived at the Pudukad police station in Thrissur on Sunday midnight, claiming he was carrying the skeletal remains of infants.

Thrissur Rural SP B Krishna Kumar confirmed that forensic experts had examined the bones and prima facie verified them to be those of newborns. A full forensic analysis is now underway.

‘Bones kept for rituals’, says man

According to police, Bavish claimed the bones were preserved for rituals so the souls of the babies could attain moksha. He reportedly suspected his partner of infidelity and wanted to expose her. This personal tension may have triggered the confession, said police.

Police said the first child was born in November 2021 and, according to initial statements, died due to a birth complication. However, Aneesha later admitted to suffocating the newborn. She allegedly buried the body in a plot near their house and exhumed it eight months later, handing over the bones to Bavish.

The second child was born in August 2024 and was reportedly killed in a similar manner. The body was buried in a different location.

Relationship, pregnancy, and motive under scrutiny

The couple reportedly met in 2020 via social media and were in a live-in relationship. While they initially planned to marry, their relationship soured in recent months. Police said Bavish feared Aneesha was planning to marry someone else and disclosed the deaths to exact revenge.

Investigators are also probing whether Aneesha’s family was aware of the pregnancies and whether any third parties were involved in the concealment or burial of the bodies.

The Kerala Police have said further forensic and psychological evaluations of both accused are underway. The incident has triggered widespread public shock and debate over the legal and social challenges surrounding live-in relationships, mental health, and access to reproductive support.
