Tirur: A man and his associates, who arrived in Mumbai from Oman allegedly with drugs and then traveled to Tirur by train, have been arrested. The accused were caught with 141.58 grams of MDMA, allegedly intended for sale in the state.

The arrested men have been identified as Hyder Ali (29) from Anamangad, Assainar (37) from Vengara and Muhammed Kabir (33) from Kannamangalam. They were arrested by Tirur Police on Thursday evening near Tirur railway station. Acting on a tip-off received by Malappuram District Police Chief R Vishwanath, law enforcement officials, including members of Tirur and Perinthalmanna District Anti-Narcotic Special Action Force (DANSAF), conducted a citywide search operation that led to their arrest.

Investigations revealed that Hyder Ali had recently visited Oman and returned to Mumbai three days ago. He then took the other two suspects on a train journey to Tirur. Police arrested him in a railway station parking lot while attempting to smuggle narcotics.

Upon interrogation, Hyder Ali admitted to purchasing the MDMA from a Pakistani dealer in Oman for 360 riyals. The accused intended to sell the substance in Kerala’s market for around Rs 5 lakh. According to his statement, MDMA sourced from Oman is considered highly potent and in high demand.

The arrest was carried out by a team led by Tanur Deputy Superintendent of Police (DYSP) Moosa Vallikkadan.
