Attempt to murder case registered as teen brutally beaten by best friends in Thiruvananthapuram

Thiruvananthapuram: Police have registered a case of attempted murder against three students who assaulted a 16-year-old boy in Vithura. The Aryanad police recorded the statements of both the victim and the accused on Monday. The three juveniles will be taken to the Poojappura juvenile home on Tuesday, where they will undergo counselling.
The incident occurred on February 4 when the victim's classmates allegedly attacked him over derogatory remarks he was accused of making about a female friend. The victim, however, maintained that he had only seen her on the road and had not made any inappropriate remarks. Ignoring his explanation, the attackers dragged him out of his house and took him to a nearby field where they brutally beat him. His younger brother, who was present, was also assaulted.
The attack continued until a passerby hearing the younger brother’s screams intervened. The attackers then fled the scene.
The attackers recorded the assault on their mobile phones and shared the footage on social media groups, boasting about the incident. The attack came to light after the victim’s parents discovered the video and filed a complaint with the Aryanad police.
The attackers then threatened to kill the victim and his brother if they reported the incident to anyone. Fearing for their lives, the victim and his brother kept the assault a secret from their mother.
Following the victim's parents' complaint, the police launched an investigation and referred the case to Child Line for further action. Three of the accused were then presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. While police suspect that five individuals were involved in the assault, their initial findings confirm the direct participation of three students.
