Kerala mass murder: Affan reveals motive behind each murder, 'Had immense love and hatred for...'

Thiruvananthapuram: The confessions of Affan, the accused in Thiruvananthapuram mass murder case, unravel a chilling tale of financial liability, betrayal and a twisted sense of love and hatred that led to the brutal killings of his family members, including his grandmother, brother and girlfriend.
According to Affan's statement, the murder was driven by a combination of love and lack of support from certain family members. Affan, who is currently in police custody, admitted that his love for three of the victims, his mother, brother and girlfriend motivated his decision to kill them. While his intense hatred for his grandmother, paternal uncle and aunt led to their murders.
He explained that his family had been drowning in debt, and in a desperate attempt to solve his problems, he turned to his relatives for help. His grandmother Salma Beevi, paternal uncle Latif and Latif's wife Shahida were among those who refused to offer any financial support or jewellery.
Having previously lent Affan Rs 1.5 lakh, Latif had declined further requests for money, scolding him instead for mismanaging funds. In his statement, Affan cited these reasons as the primary reason for his hatred toward Latif and his wife.
As creditors constantly harassed him and his family for repayments, Affan claimed he saw no other way out. He planned to kill his loved ones too because he had no money even for his mother's treatment.
Brutal attacks started with his mother, ended with his brother
The first victim of Affan was his mother, Shemi. Around 11 am, Affan attempted to suffocate her by wrapping a shawl around her neck. Believing she had died, he locked her in a room and went out.
He went to a private money exchange institution at Venjaramoodu, where he borrowed Rs. 1400 by promising to bring gold as a pawn. He then bought a bag, hammer and rat poison from three separate shops. This statement of Affan has been verified by the police.
However, when he returned home, he found that his mother was still alive. He struck her repeatedly with the hammer to her face and head, causing severe injuries.
After the attack on his mother, Affan went to his grandmother Salma Beevi’s house in Pangodu, where he struck her on the head, killing her. He stole her necklace and went to the money exchange shop in Venjaramoodu, where he pawned the jewellery for Rs. 74,000. Out of the money, he paid Rs. 40,000 to a creditor.
Next, Affan visited his paternal uncle Latif’s house. There, he killed both Latif and his wife Shahida. Following these brutal acts, Affan went to a bar and got drunk. He then called his girlfriend Farsana to his house.
Drunk Affan killed Farsana, claiming that he did not want her to live without him, and feared she would be an orphan. To avoid being interrupted by his younger brother, who had arrived home at this time, Affan sent him out to buy Kuzhimandi in an auto.
When his brother returned, Affan consumed rat poison first and then killed his brother. He confessed that, in his intoxicated state, he consumed alcohol again before finally taking an auto to the Venjaramoodu police station, to Deputy Superintendent of Police Manjulal S from Attingal.
