Karimnagar, Telangana: In a chilling case of suspected honour killing, a couple was arrested on Thursday for allegedly murdering their 17-year-old daughter after she refused to end her relationship with a man from a different caste in their village.

The accused parents had earlier approached the police claiming that their daughter died by suicide due to chronic stomach pain. Based on their complaint, the police registered a case of suspicious death and sent the body for post-mortem examination and viscera analysis.

However, the forensic report contradicted the parents’ version and revealed that the teenager died due to throttling, raising serious doubts about the circumstances surrounding her death.

During the investigation, police discovered that the victim was in a relationship with a man belonging to another caste. According to officials, the parents had repeatedly warned her to end the relationship, but she refused to comply.

Unable to accept her choice, the parents allegedly forced her to consume insecticide and later strangled her, police said. The couple then attempted to pass off the murder as a case of suicide to mislead investigators.

Following the forensic findings and further questioning, the police arrested both parents. They will be produced before a court on December 26, officials confirmed.

The case has once again highlighted the persistent issue of honour killings linked to inter-caste relationships in parts of the country.
