Cop run over by car during vehicle inspection in Palakkad; youth arrested

Palakkad: A 19-year-old youth has been arrested in Thrithala for attempting to murder a police officer by running him over with a car during a vehicle inspection. 

Alan, a native of Nhangattiri, was arrested by the Thrithala police in Pattambi on Sunday. The victim, Thrithala Sub-Inspector (SI) Sreekumaran, is undergoing treatment at a hospital.

The incident occurred in the Mangalam area around 10:30 p.m. on Saturday. During the questioning of the youths inside the vehicle, the driver suddenly reversed and attempted to escape.

Sub-Inspector Sreekumaran and another officer tried to intercept the vehicle, but Alan ran over Sreekumaran before fleeing the scene.

Following the incident, Alan went into hiding, but the police managed to take the car into custody. According to the authorities, the car's owner is a Pattambi native. 

Eventually, he was nabbed from Pattambi on Sunday afternoon. Investigations are also underway to identify another individual who was present in the car at the time of the incident.
