A 30-year-old woman was found unresponsive at her residence in MKB Nagar, Chennai, on Sunday, with police detaining her husband as part of an ongoing investigation into her death.

The woman, identified as Suganya, was living with her husband Karthik, 34, who works at a private electrical firm. The couple also has a seven-year-old daughter.

According to police sources, the couple had a history of frequent quarrels, allegedly linked to Karthik’s drinking habits. On Sunday, tensions reportedly escalated after he returned home under the influence of alcohol.

During the altercation, Suganya is believed to have entered a room and locked it from the inside. When she did not respond for a considerable period, Karthik forced the door open and found her lying unresponsive.

She was rushed to Government Stanley Medical College Hospital in an autorickshaw, where doctors declared her ‘brought dead’.

Following a complaint from the woman’s mother, the MKB Nagar police registered a case under Section 174 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, which pertains to suspicious deaths.

Karthik has since been detained for questioning, and investigators are examining the sequence of events leading up to the incident. Police said the exact cause of death will be determined after the postmortem report is received.

Authorities are also looking into the couple’s domestic history as part of the probe, while no foul play has been officially confirmed so far.
