Irked by denial of extra sambar, inmate injures co-prisoner with steel tumbler in Kerala jail

Kannur, Kerala: A prisoner at Kannur Central Jail allegedly injured a fellow inmate with a steel tumbler after being denied extra sambar with breakfast on Sunday morning.
The injured prisoner has been identified as Raman Kutty, 56, of Pothuketty in Ambalavayal, Wayanad. He is a convict lodged in the fifth block of the jail.
The incident reportedly took place at around 6.40 am, while breakfast was being served to the inmates.
According to details of the incident, Kiranraj Shetty, another prisoner in the same block, asked Raman Kutty, who was serving breakfast, for additional sambar to have with his idli.
Raman Kutty reportedly told him that the jail authorities had instructed staff to serve curry equally among all prisoners.
Steel tumbler allegedly used in attack
The response allegedly angered Kiranraj Shetty. He is accused of pushing Raman Kutty before striking him on the forehead with a steel tumbler.
Raman Kutty sustained an injury to his head following the alleged attack. He sought treatment at the district hospital following the incident.
