Kottayam double murder: Grudge turns deadly? Police to collect more details from Amit Orang

Kottayam: The police have reached Amit Orang’s hiding place, a poultry farm at Meladoor near Mala in Thrissur district, by tracking the location of the mobile phones used by him. They took the Assam native into custody from the farm in the early hours of Wednesday. Amit Orang was nabbed in connection with the Kottayam double murder case.
Preliminary indications suggest that the motive behind the murder was his grudge towards Vijayakumar in connection with a failed love affair. Amit had previously worked as a security guard at the auditorium owned by the victim, Vijayakumar. During that time, a woman whom he befriended left him, which is believed to have led Amit harbouring a grudge against Vijayakumar. The police suspect that this grudge may have been the reason for the murder.
According to the police, the accused is a very cunning person. He had over ten mobile phones and SIM cards in his possession, and frequently switched between phones, which complicated the investigation. After committing the crime, Amit took the mobile phones of Vijayakumar and his wife Meera, who were both killed. One of the phones was switched on in an attempt to log out of a Google account. The intention was to prevent the phone from syncing with the Google account. However, this turned out to be a key lead for the police. The investigation team acted swiftly and arrested the accused.
The arrest took place around 12:30 a.m. The police conducted the initial round of interrogation at the spot. It is reported that Amit confessed to the crime. The police are now trying to uncover the exact reason behind the brutal killings. Amit had worked as a security guard at Vijayakumar’s auditorium for about three years. During the same period, a woman labourer from another state worked at Vijayakumar’s house. Though they were not legally married, Amit claimed she was his wife.
It was during this period that Amit was arrested by the police in a theft case and spent around five months in jail based on a complaint lodged by Vijayakumar. It is believed that the woman left him following this incident. The police suspect that Amit believed Vijayakumar and his wife were responsible for the breakdown of his personal life, which may have led to the heinous murder.
The police managed to catch the accused within 24 hours of the crime. He had been hiding at a poultry farm near Mala in Thrissur. Reports suggest that he travelled from Kottayam to Thrissur by bus. The police are also interrogating other migrant workers at the poultry farm.
