Police charge youth with rape, attempted murder after girl found severely injured in Chottanikkara

Kochi: Police have nabbed a man from Thalayolaparambu, Kottayam, in connection with an incident involving a girl who was found unconscious and debilitated at her residence. The arrest follows the retrieval of CCTV footage, which showed the man entering the girl’s home.

Charges of rape and attempted murder filed

The police have informed that serious charges have been filed against a man based on the mother's statement of the young girl. Charges of rape and attempted murder have been slapped against him, according to DySP V.T. Shajan. The girl has suffered physical attack, and she has not been able to speak due to her condition.

Incident details

The incident reportedly occurred at around 10:15 PM on Saturday. The neighbours reported a heated argument between the suspect and the girl at her home. On Sunday afternoon, a relative found the girl semi-nude, with a rope around her neck, and unconscious. She had severe injuries to her hands, with ants pestering the wounds.

Meamwhile, the man nabbed by police claimed he had been in a relationship with the girl for about a year, and he believed she had attempted suicide and died, which prompted him to leave the scene.
