Kottayam: The police have confirmed that the accused in the Kottayam double murder case is Amit Orang, a native of Assam, who had previously worked in the house. Crucial information was obtained from nearby CCTV footage. The police confirmed that the person seen walking in the footage is indeed Amit Orang. Fingerprints found on the axe used in the murder also matched his, police sources said.

Amit had earlier been arrested by the police in connection with a theft case. During that time, the police had collected his fingerprints. Scientific analysis confirmed that the fingerprints on the axe recovered from the crime scene matched those taken earlier, according to the police.

Reports suggest that he is currently absconding. After committing the crime, it is believed that he left Kerala. The last location from which his mobile phone was active was in Salem. The police noted that the accused possesses around ten mobile phones and several SIM cards, which he uses to contact people.

T.K. Vijayakumar (64) and his wife Dr Meera Vijayakumar (60), residents of Thiruvathukkal Sreevalsam House and owners of the Indraprastham Auditorium in Kottayam, were brutally murdered inside their home. They are the parents of Gautham Vijayakumar (28), a young businessman who was found dead on the railway tracks in Thellakam, Kottayam, in June 2017. A CBI investigation into that case had just begun a few days ago.

It was the domestic worker Revamma who discovered the murder on Tuesday morning. Bond Raj, a hearing-impaired gardener, was staying in the outhouse but was unaware of the incident. It is believed that the murder occurred between 12.30 am and 1 am on Monday night.

The investigation is focused on Amit, the former domestic worker from Assam. Though his phone had received a signal from Salem, it has been switched off since. There are indications that, after being released from jail—where he had been for stealing Vijayakumar's phone and committing financial fraud—he returned to the house and had an argument.

The house had 16 surveillance cameras. It is believed that a glass window was opened, the grill removed using a tool, and the door latch accessed through the window.

The bodies were found in two different rooms. It is assumed that they were first struck on the head with a chopper and then suffocated with a pillow to ensure death.

Their daughter, Gayathri, lives in the US and got married six months ago.
