Kerala Plus Two student who died of fever found to be five months pregnant; Police launch probe

Pathanamthitta: A 17-year-old Plus Two student from Pathanamthitta, who died while undergoing treatment for fever, was found to be five months pregnant during the post-mortem examination. Following this revelation, the police have initiated an investigation.

The deceased girl was a student at a prominent educational institution in Pathanamthitta. She had been receiving treatment for fever at various hospitals in the district for about a week. On November 22, she was transferred to Alappuzha Medical College Hospital for specialised care. Unfortunately, she passed away in the early hours of Monday while under treatment.

A post-mortem was conducted as her death appeared suspicious. The findings revealed that the girl was five months pregnant. There are also suspicions that she may have consumed an excessive amount of medication.

Based on the discovery of her pregnancy, the police have registered a case under the provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and initiated further investigations.
