A corporate executive based in Singapore was shot dead outside his residence in Faridabad’s Sector 21C on Friday night following an argument over parking. Paramjeet Dhankhar had arrived in India on 5 November to attend his nephew’s wedding scheduled for later this month. Originally from Hisar, Dhankhar previously served as the regional business head of Tech Mahindra's Asia-Pacific region and was currently working as senior vice president at Vietnam-headquartered FPT Software Company Limited. He was killed on the spot when his neighbour allegedly opened fire with a licensed pistol.

The tragedy unfolded on the night of Dhanteras, two days before Diwali, after Dhankhar returned home from the gym around 8 pm. Police reports said that he found his neighbour’s vehicle parked in the space allotted to his family at building number 641. When Dhankhar asked his neighbour, Mohan Sharma, to move the vehicle, an intense argument broke out. The confrontation escalated rapidly. Sharma allegedly called Dhankhar out and opened fire multiple times. Initial police reports indicate that around fifteen rounds were fired from a licensed handgun, with multiple bullets striking Dhankhar and causing fatal injuries instantly.

A history of ongoing friction

Reports said that the two families, living in the same four-storey building, had been involved in recurring disagreements for several days. Tensions reportedly stemmed from parking arrangements and objections raised by Dhankhar’s family regarding Sharma’s son letting their pet dog defecate in the parking space. It is said that an argument over these issues had occurred four to five days prior to the incident, whilst another confrontation involving allegations of verbal abuse took place five days earlier. Although previous quarrels were temporarily resolved, underlying resentment persisted between the households.

Police launch search for absconding family

Following the shooting, Dhankhar’s son Shaurya alerted the authorities. Police teams, forensic experts, and crime branch personnel cordoned off the area and recovered empty cartridge cases from the scene. Dhankhar’s body was sent to Badshah Khan Civil Hospital for a post-mortem examination. The police registered a murder case under Section 103(1) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita and the Arms Act at Surajkund police station against Sharma and four family members. Senior police officers confirmed that multiple search teams have been deployed to trace the suspect and his family, who fled immediately after the incident.
